ABOUT TROY

Troy McKeown Army FA

Troy McKeown was born and in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He enjoyed the time he spent camping, hunting and fishing in the great Wyoming outdoors.

At the age of 17, Troy enlisted in the US Army. While he was still enlisted, he graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He then went to Officer Candidate School and upon completion, he was designated as a Field Artillery Officer. While he was at Ft. Benning, he was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a platoon leader.

Upon return, he completed the Artillery Officer Advance Course at Ft. Sill and then completed the Infantry Officer Advanced Course at Ft. Benning. While he was stationed in Germany, he deployed to Bosnia with IFOR/SFOR as a battery commander. He then returned to the States to partake in a Joint Command at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. Following that assignment he assumed his second level command. After that assignment, he was sent to Washington D. C. as Career Field Manager. He later was sent back to Colorado Springs as a Brigade S3, and Brigade Executive Officer, and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His last assignment was the Assistant J5 and Assistant J3 at the Joint Force Component Command for Space Operations. In 2008, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from his impressive Army career.

In 2008, he purchased Don's Supermarket in Gillette. He saw a good opportunity to run a small business and provide a valuable service to his community.

In 2018, he purchased Don's Supermarket in Wright, in order to continue providing essential services to them and keep jobs there.

In 2009, his supermarket chain received the growth award from the warehouse. In 2012, he received the outstanding volunteer recognition from the Gillette Fire Department. In 2016, he won the award for the best small business, issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Gillette.

Troy is deeply connected to his community, helping wherever and whenever he can. Every year, he donates food to the Christmas dinner for the people in need. Additionally, he donates food for the 4th of July Pancake and Hotdog feed. This year (2020), he was part of the committee to save the 4th of July activities, including the parade. Up to this day, he continues supporting his community and gives back to them as much as he can.
